fter the first London performance of Messiah, a patron complimented Handel on the excellent "entertainment".
Handel's reply was: "I should be sorry if I had only succeeded in entertaining you; I wanted to make you better." The oratorio does, however, contain numerous superhits that captivate, thrill and empathise with the audience.
The three-part work about the birth of Jesus, his journey to the cross and the redemption of mankind through his resurrection stands out not only for its finely differentiated choral part, but also for the characterful arias and recitatives of the solo voices. LES CONCERTS presents a brilliant cast for this, which shines vocally and creatively.
