QUEST FOR THE DIVINE
with the Zürcher Kammerorchester, Florian Helgath conductor
A
fter a long break, we are looking forward to working with the esteemed Zurich Chamber Orchestra with particular pleasure! This concert will feature Benjamin Britten's Cantata misericordium as well as a cantata and motet by Johann Sebastian Bach. The ZKO will also present Frank Martin's "Polyptyque".
Martin was commissioned to compose it for the 25th anniversary of the International Music Council by Yehudi Menuhin, who premiered the work as a soloist with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Edmond de Stoutz in Gstaad in 1973. His strong connection to Johann Sebastian Bach, especially the St Matthew Passion - a formative musical experience of his childhood - is audible inspiration. The conductor is our artistic director Florian Helgath.
